Back in high school, on this art class field trip, we went to a place that had a vintage store near or across the street. I remember, at 18, finding this plain black vintage blazer, and I HAD to have it. I even had to scrounge up extra money to pay the $30 for it. Ever since, I have always been into tailoring and blazers. It’s become one of my signature style pieces.
Now, I have only been into full suiting within really the last year or two. I’ve always had blazers, but I never really got into the look of a full on suit. I’m not sure if I felt it was too expected, or what, but it just never resonated with me as much in my 20s. I must say, I didn’t know what I was missing.
I’m all about more unexpected suiting though, whether it’s pattern, cut, texture, or color. I think it should be interesting and cool.
There is an ease to suiting, for men and for women. I find the “gender” of the suiting irrelevant. Just buy what you want, if it happens to be in the opposite gender’s section, just buy it (as long as you can get it to fit, or tailored to be such). I’m all about more unexpected suiting though, whether it’s pattern, cut, texture, or color. I think it should be interesting and cool. My favorite way to style suiting is a little less professional, or dressy.
Overall, I like it paired with funky shoes, vintage or graphic tees, or any other bold accessories. For a more dressy way, I would just swap the shirt for a thin turtleneck. But, keep the cool shoes.
If you’re looking for options, Zara has some pretty good suiting for men and even women.
